The Duff Shaw Memorial Scholarship was created to honor Duff Shaw and is sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association and the Southern California Golf Course Superintendents Association.  Duff Shaw was a 1986 graduate of the Program.  A mere six years after graduating, Duff lost his life after a struggle with cancer.  To honor Duff, a golf tournament is held in Southern California to raise money for Duff’s daughter Erin.  A portion of these proceeds is set aside and presented each year to one outstanding individual from the Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program.  This year’s recipient received a plaque and monetary award in the amount of $1,000.

The Myles Adderly Technical Paper Writing Award, sponsored by the Penn State Turfgrass Alumni Association, was established to honor Myles who was an outstanding writer from the graduating class of 1986 and was also from South Africa.  The award recognizes one individual’s accomplishments in written communication. Each year, money raised from an annual golf tournament is awarded in Myles name to one student in recognition of their outstanding internship report.  This year’s recipient received a plaque and monetary award in the amount of $1,000.

The 2015 recipient of the Myles Adderly Technical Paper Writing Award was Mr. Sean M. Kelly.

The Penncross Bentgrass Growers Association scholarship is sponsored by the Penncross Growers Association, an Oregon seed growers association that produces the world renowned Penn State Turfgrass varieties.  To date, the association has donated over $400,000 in scholarships.  This year, Penn State had 5 recipients; each received a plaque and scholarship in the amount of $2,000.
