Incoming 2-Year Program Student to Play in Division 1 State Golf Tournament

In four seasons as Sauk Prairie’s No. 1 golfer, R.J. Budd was bested by a teammate’s score in 18-hole competition just once.

51c91642f05ec.preview-620Yet had it not been for a memorable run to end this past season, the senior would have never even experienced the thrill of playing in the WIAA Division 1 state tournament.

After qualifying as an individual out of the Middleton regional and the Sparta sectional – each featuring some of the strongest competition in Wisconsin – it was off to University Ridge Golf Course for Budd, who made the most of his first state appearance by surging to the state championship with a two-day total of 143 (1-under-par).

For his efforts, Budd has been named the Wisconsin State Journal/WisconsinPrepZone.com area boys golfer of the year. He will attend Penn State University this fall and enroll in the school’s Golf Course Management Program, but does not plan to play golf for the Nittany Lions.
