Congratulations to 2-Year Program Scholarship Winners

This past Saturday, March 5, 2016, nineteen two-year Golf Turf Management Program students graduated at the Nittany Lion Inn. Many of the graduating students recieved scholarships, including:

A Level Playing Field: Penn State helps keep NFL fields safe for professional athletes

Earlier this month, Tom Serensits traveled from his home in central Pennsylvania to the warm coasts of Hawaii and California to spend his days not in the sand and surf, but in the turf. Specifically, the turfgrass-covered field for the 2016 Pro Bowl and the practice fields for Super Bowl 50.

A Message from the Alumni Association

The Pennsylvania State University Turf Grass Alumni Association meeting in San Diego, on February 10th was a well-attended event, with brisk discussion on the future of the organization.

Alum Inducted into Georgia Hall of Fame

Marsh Benson, an alumnus of the 2-year Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program at Penn State, spent 26 years at Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Tournament, before retiring in April this year. Benson was inducted along with two other veterans of the profession: William Smith, CGCS, (pictured on the right) from the Country Club of Columbus in Columbus; and Chuck Underwood, CGCS, (pictured on the left) from Northwood Country Club in Lawrenceville.

Alumni Wins CGSA TORO Future Superintendent of the Year Award

Morgan Robins, Environmental Coordinator, at the Capilano Golf and Country Clubin West Vancouver, British Columbia is the 2015 winner of the CGSA/Toro Future Superintendent of the Year Award. Morgan completed his Certificate in Golf Course Turfgrass Management at Penn State University in March of 2015.
