Student Recieves Chris Stiegler Turf Science Student Travel Award and Fellowship

Master of Science student Devon Carroll was named one of eight recipients of the 2018 Chris Stiegler Turf Science Student Travel Award and Fellowship. The award was created in memory of the late Dr. Chris Stiegler and is funded by a bi-annual golf tournament.

Student Receives Travel Award and Speaks in Finland

Congratulations to second year Master of Science student Devon Carroll, who recently received the 2018 Penn State Agricultural Sciences International Travel Tag Along Fund award. This award helped fund an international trip to Helsinki, Finland where Devon presented her thesis research.

Master of Science Student Recognized in Poster Competition

Congratulations to second year Master of Science student Devon Carroll! Devon, who is a student in the Turfgrass Management Laboratory, placed second in her division of the graduate student competition for her poster titled “Effects of Cultivation Method, Seeding Rate, an N Rate on Establishment of Agrostis stolonifera in a Putting Green.”

PTC Names Graduate Fellowships for Three PSU Turfgrass Icons

To honor their contributions to the turfgrass and sports surface industries, the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council recently established three graduate fellowships in the College of Agricultural Sciences’ Department of Plant Science.

PTC Scholarship Winners Announced

The Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council announces the winners of the 2018 PTC Student Scholarships. This year’s recipients are Nathaniel Leiby, Aleksander Schuler and Shawn Moore.

Penn State Turf Students Compete at the STMA

This year's national Sports Turf Manager's Association annual conference was recently held in Fort Worth, TX. In addition to professors, Turfgrass staff, and Beaver Stadium grounds personnel, Penn State sent 12 students; 8 from the 4-year turf program and 4 two-year turf students. These students traveled to the event to either compete in the SAFE Foundation's Student Challenge or receive a SAFE Foundation Scholarship or both.

2-Year Program Alum wins MacCurrach Award

Golf Course Turfgrass Management 2-Year Program alum Jordan Carbone of Erin, Ontario, Canada, recently received the MacCurrach Award in the GCSAA Scholars Competition.

This past Saturday, March 4, 2017, twelve two-year Golf Turf Management Program students graduated at the Nittany Lion Inn. Many of the graduating students received scholarships, including:

Penn State students Kevin Heimann, Derek Buganza, Thomas Goyne, and Curt Moore took 1st place in the 4-year division at this year's Turf Bowl Competition at the Sports Turf Managers Association Conference (STMA) in Orlando!
