Curtis Tyrrell Preps for 2012 Ryder Cup

Heading to the Ryder Cup
Next week is the 2012 Ryder Cup and 19 students in the Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program are heading to Medinah Country Club to see first hand what it takes to pull off this event.

2-Year Students Win GCSAA Scholarships
Students within the Penn State Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program on the University Park Campus won 40% of the scholarships available through the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. A total of 7 students were awarded $9500 through GCSAA's Essay Contest and Scholars Program.

Penn State Turf Students Headed to the Ryder Cup
Medinah Country Club’s Director of Grounds and Penn State alum Curtis Tyrrell has invited 20 Penn State Turfgrass Students to help prepare the course for the 2012 Ryder Cup. Students within the Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program (the 2-year program) will fly to Chicago in September where they will assist Tyrrell and his full time crew ready the course for the biennial golf match between teams from Europe and the United States.

Internship Visits: Round #3
June is generally my busiest month with the most travel for the entire summer because of internship visits and the summer of 2011 is no exception. Over the next 5 weeks I will be making trips to 9 students interning at various golf courses around the country. This week's visit takes me to Atlantic City and Northeast PA to visit 3 students.
