Penn State Students Win Trans-Mississippi Turf Scholarships
Penn State senior Sean Kelly was selected as the 2014 Vickers Scholarship winner, highlighting the class of eight collegians who comprised this year’s Trans-Mississippi Golf Association Turf Scholarship Winners. Kelly received the highest honor – a $7,500 scholarship – as he completes his Associate’s Degree in Golf Course Turfgrass Management. He also receives an engraved medal and other gifts from the Trans-Miss Golf Association (TMGA).

2-Year Program Alum Talks Turfgrass Consultancy & Rory McIlroy
Harrington’s practice area was finished about eight years ago, though it’s been remodeled and added to since. Harrington had a green built in imitation of the 13th at Carnoustie, with a severe slope running off the back. “The harder the shot, the happier Padraig is,” says John Clarkin, founder of Turfgrass Consultancy (“TC”) and the first Irish graduate of Penn State University’s Turfgrass Management Program.

Help Kane Fight Cancer
We are sad to announce that Kane Wolf, son of 2002 2-year program Alum and Yahnundasis Golf Club superintendent Matt Wolf, has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer that develops from immature nerve cells.

Students Receive GCSAA Scholarships
Penn State students were awarded 45% GCSAA scholarship dollars this year, with seven students receiving a total of $13,500.

Michael Sauls Looks Back
Butler National Golf Club superintendent Michael Sauls didn't always know that he wanted to work in the Green Industry. Saul spent two years studying engineering at another university before he decided to change his focus, "having worked on a golf course during high school, it became apparent this was something that I loved to do...the decision to change my major to turfgrass management became obvious".

Adam Duncan – Valley Club
After my late morning visit with RJ at Teton Springs Golf Club, I made the four hour drive west to prepare for a morning visit. The 27th hole facility at the Valley Club gave plenty of opportunity for intern Adam Duncan to get a wealth of experience in various agronomic management practices.
