May 12, 2020 in 4-year, Awards
The Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council is pleased to announce that Devin Schnupp, Paige Alcorn, and Evan Vanyo have been named the 2020 recipients of the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council (PTC) scholarship.
The PTC’s primary role is to support turfgrass research and education at Penn State. This annual award was created to support students in the Golf Course Turfgrass Management Program.
Evan Vanyo hails from Meadville, Pennsylvania. Vanyo first became interested in turf after spending a summer working at the Joseph E Valentine Turfgrass Research Center. Vanyo switched majors and never looked back. Since then, he has interned at the Oakmont Country Club and has accepted a full-time position at Oakmont following graduation.
Paige Alcorn is a native of Somerset, Pennsylvania. She first became interested in turfgrass after learning about the program at Penn State’s annual open house. During her time at Penn State, she interned at the Joseph E Valentine Turfgrass Research Center, the Spikes Stadium, the Mystic Rock and Shepherd’s Rock golf courses at Nemacolin Woodland’s Resort, the Winfield United Professional Products Group, and volunteered at the 2019 Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine and the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. Following graduation, she plans to attend graduate school.
Devin Schnupp hails from Lititz, Pennsylvania. Schnupp’s interest in turfgrass stems from his father, who has run a lawn care business for over thirty-four years. During his time at Penn State, he has interned and worked for the Beaver Stadium Grounds Crew. Following graduation Schnupp plans to work for the family business.
Please join the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council in congratulating these outstanding students.
