ARDMORE, MONTGOMERY COUNTY – Penn State Alum Matt Shaffer says, “when you have a championship, you push the grass to its outside ability to survive.”
Shaffer certainly knows what he’s talking about too. The Blair County native played one of the most visible roles ever by a Turfgrass Pro at one of golf’s major championships. Shaffer helped Merion Golf Club take on both the World’s best golfers and Mother Nature at this past year’s U.S. Open.
Penn State grads, Brad Owen and Marsha Benson, meanwhile, are both employed at Augusta National, home of the Master’s, and Jeff Corcoran is Rochester’s Oak Hill Country Club’s superintendent.
